Matthew McGlynn of Recording Hacks and Roswell Pro Audio: MRR mentor.

We are already super happy with the mentor line-up for Mountain Recording Retreat 2019, but we had a chance to make it even better and  jumped on it. We have added Matthew McGlynn to the crew!

Matthew McGlynn is the founder of the Roswell Pro Audio microphone company, DIY microphone company and Recording Hacks, the world’s greatest microphone database. Matthew will be lecturing about microphones, helping out with builds in the DIY lab and, like all the other mentors, hanging out all week to help participants.

Mathews joins our already impressive mentor line up:

Rick Jarrard: Producer of many iconic recordings including “White Rabbit” and “Somebody to Love” by the Jefferson Airplane, as well as iconic hits by Jose Feleciano (“Feliz Navidad”, “Light My Fire”, etc.)

John Rodd: Film and video game music engineer for major Hollywood films and big budget video games. He just finished recording and mixing the score for Jordan Peele’s new film “Us” which is the #1 movie in America at the time of writing this.

Brad Smalling: Producer-engineer and owner of Evergroove Studio in Colorado.

Ronan Chris Murphy: Producer-engineer (Gwar, Mafia 3, King Crimson).

Peterson Goodwyn: DIY guru and founder of DIYRE (DIY Recording Equipment).

Mountain Recording Retreat is an all inclusive retreat taking place May 19-24, 2019 at the beautiful Capon Spring resort in West Virginia, just 90 minutes west of Washington Dulles International Airport.

We sold out last year, but have opened up more rooms this year, so we still have spots available.

DIY Lab featuring Matthew McGlynn & Peterson Goodwyn.

One of the highlights of the Mountain Recording Retreat is the DIY Lab, recording gear building workshops. What started as a small experiment has turned into one of the coolest DIY events of the year featuring some of the top leaders in DIY Audio Gear. There are opportunities for both experienced DIY builders and those that have never held a soldering iron.

Spend 5 days in a beautiful mountain location building gear, learning about recording, and eating great food with others that are as passionate about music and recording as you are!

In the first year the lab and all workshops were overseen by Peterson Goodwyn, the founder of DIYRE ( and subsequent years saw the addition of two more DIYRE team members, Jesse Gimbel and Chris Baldys. This year we are proud to announce the addition of Matthew McGlynn the founder of the Recording Hacks Microphone database and

This year we will feature instructor led projects for beginner and intermediate builders as well as open lab time where participants can work on their own personal projects under the supervision and guidance of our expert instructors. Participants can order kits in advance from DIYRE and Microphone parts, or bring kits from other companies to work on in the open sessions. This is a chance to work on DIY recording gear projects under the supervision of some of the industries top experts.

Participation in the DIY Lab is included in your registration for the Mountain Recording Retreat, but does not include materials costs. Purchasing kits can be arranged with our mentors before the retreat. Soldering kits are provided for those that do not bring their own.
